Timer Issues

Solutions for common timer problems including timers that won't start, stuck timers, and missing entries.

Timer Won't Start

Problem: Clicking a topic doesn't start the timer

You click on a topic in Quick Start or try to start a timer, but nothing happens.

Possible causes:

  • Another timer is already running (check the timer display)
  • The topic has been deleted or archived
  • You're viewing a different organization than expected
  • Browser JavaScript is blocked or errored

Solutions:

  1. 1
Check if a timer is already running — look for the active timer display at the top of the page
  2. 2
If a timer is running, stop it first, then start the new one
  3. 3
Verify you're in the correct organization (check the sidebar header)
  4. 4
Refresh the page and try again
  5. 5
Open browser developer tools (F12) and check for JavaScript errors

Problem: Space bar doesn't toggle the timer

Pressing Space doesn't start or stop the timer as expected.

Possible causes:

  • You're not on the Timer page (Space only works there)
  • Focus is in a text input or textarea
  • No topics exist to start a timer for

Solutions:

  1. 1
Navigate to the Timer page (press G then T, or click Timer in the sidebar)
  2. 2
Click somewhere outside any input fields to remove focus
  3. 3
Create at least one topic if you haven't already

Tip

You can always start a timer by pressing Alt + 1-9 to quick-start topics from the Quick Start panel, regardless of which page you're on.

Timer Stuck or Frozen

Problem: Timer display shows wrong time or doesn't update

The timer appears to be running but the displayed time isn't changing, or shows an incorrect duration.

Possible causes:

  • Browser tab was suspended (common when tab is in background)
  • Device went to sleep while timer was running
  • System clock changed while timer was active

Solutions:

  1. 1
Refresh the page — the timer will recalculate based on actual start time
  2. 2
The server always tracks the correct start time, so your entry won't be lost
  3. 3
If the display still seems wrong after refresh, stop and check the entry in Calendar view

Note

TeeckIn stores the timer start time on the server. Even if the display freezes, your actual tracked time is calculated from when you started, not from the display count.

Problem: Timer won't stop

You click Stop or press Space, but the timer keeps running.

Possible causes:

  • Network request failed (check offline indicator)
  • Server temporarily unavailable

Solutions:

  1. 1
Check if you're offline (look for offline indicator in sidebar)
  2. 2
Wait a moment and try stopping again — the request may be queued
  3. 3
Refresh the page and try stopping
  4. 4
If still stuck, note the correct end time and edit the entry manually after

Missing Time Entries

Problem: Timer stopped but no entry was created

You stopped a timer but can't find the resulting time entry anywhere.

Possible causes:

  • Entry was very short (under 1 minute) and got discarded
  • You're looking in the wrong organization
  • Entry was created but you're viewing a filtered date range
  • Data hasn't refreshed yet — try refreshing the page

Solutions:

  1. 1
Go to Calendar view and navigate to today's date
  2. 2
Clear any filters (topic, category) that might hide the entry
  3. 3
Check if you're in the correct organization
  4. 4
Refresh the page to load the latest data
  5. 5
Check the Dashboard — recent entries appear there too

Warning

Entries shorter than 1 minute may be automatically discarded to prevent accidental timer starts. If you need to track very short tasks, create a manual entry instead.

Problem: Entry shows wrong duration

A time entry exists but shows an incorrect duration — too long or too short.

Possible causes:

  • Timer wasn't stopped when you thought it was
  • Entry spans midnight and was split
  • System clock changed during tracking

Solutions:

  1. 1
Go to Calendar view and find the entry
  2. 2
Click on the entry to open the edit dialog
  3. 3
Adjust the start and end times to the correct values
  4. 4
    Save your changes

Note

Entries that span midnight are automatically split into two separate entries — one ending at 11:59 PM and one starting at 12:00 AM. This is by design for accurate daily reporting.

Quick Start Panel Issues

Problem: Quick Start shows wrong topics

The Quick Start panel doesn't show the topics you expect or shows old topics you haven't used recently.

Solutions:

  1. 1
Quick Start shows your 9 most recently used topics by default
  2. 2
To customize, click the pin icon on any topic tile to lock it to that slot
  3. 3
Pinned topics stay in place; unpinned slots show recent topics
  4. 4
To remove a topic, unpin it and use other topics to push it out

Problem: Quick Start panel is empty

The Quick Start panel shows no topics at all.

Possible causes:

  • No topics have been created yet
  • All topics have been deleted or archived
  • You're in a new organization with no topics

Solutions:

  1. 1
Go to Timer Settings and create a category first
  2. 2
Inside the category, create at least one topic
  3. 3
Return to Timer page — topics will appear in Quick Start
