Editing Entries

Change topics, adjust times, modify notes, or delete entries after they're created.

Overview

Every time entry can be edited after creation. You might need to fix a wrong topic, adjust start/end times, add forgotten notes, or delete accidental entries.

Opening an Entry for Editing

There are several ways to open the edit dialog:

From Timer Page

Click any entry in "Today's Entries" list to open the edit dialog.

From Calendar

Click any entry on the calendar grid to open its details and edit.

From Reports

Click the entry row in detailed report views to open for editing.

What You Can Edit

Topic

Move the entry to a different topic. Useful when you started tracking the wrong project.

Start Time

Change when the entry began. Adjusts duration automatically.

End Time

Change when the entry ended. Adjusts duration automatically.

Date

Move the entry to a different day entirely.

Notes

Add, modify, or remove the description. Switch between text and checklist mode.

Tags

Add or remove tags for categorization.

Billable Status

Toggle whether this entry counts toward invoices.

Adjusting Time on Calendar

The calendar offers visual ways to adjust entry times:

Drag to Move

Drag an entry to a different time slot. The duration stays the same, but start and end times shift.

Resize to Adjust Duration

Drag the top or bottom edge of an entry to change its start or end time. Duration changes accordingly.

Tip

Calendar drag-and-drop saves automatically. You don't need to confirm the change.

Task Time Adjusts Automatically

If an entry has tasks with tracked time, resizing the entry keeps that task time consistent — you never end up with a task logged outside the entry that contains it.

Auto-tracked tasks follow the edges

A task that was running when the entry started or stopped is pinned to that edge. Move the entry's start or end and the task's time slot moves with it — whether you grow or shrink the entry.

Tasks outside the new window are trimmed

If you shrink the entry past a task's time slot, that slot is trimmed back to the entry's new boundary. Totals on the affected tasks update right away.

Tip

You don't need to fix task times by hand after resizing an entry — TeeckIn keeps them in sync for you.

Splitting an Entry

Recorded one long entry that should really be two (you forgot to stop at a context switch)? Split it at a point in time: the original keeps everything up to the split point, and a new entry is created from the split point to the end.

  1. 1
Open the entry (click it on the timer page or calendar)
  2. 2
Click Split in the dialog — or use the Split button on a day-view calendar entry
  3. 3
Pick the split point (it defaults to the middle; it must fall inside the entry)
  4. 4
    Click Split here

The new entry inherits the original's topic, rate, billable status, notes and tags. If the entry has tasks with tracked time, that time is re-attributed across the two halves — a task split is divided at the same point — so every task's total stays exactly the same.

Tip

Splitting is one atomic action: you either get both entries with task time correctly divided, or nothing changes.

Warning

An entry that's already on an invoice can't be split — cancel or remove it from the invoice first. A running timer can't be split either; stop it first.

Deleting Entries

To delete an entry:

  1. 1
Open the entry for editing (click it)
  2. 2
Click the Delete button (trash icon)
  3. 3
    Confirm deletion in the dialog

Warning

Deleted entries cannot be recovered. If the entry is part of an invoice, you'll be warned before deletion.

Bulk Operations

For editing multiple entries at once:

From Reports

  1. Go to Reports and select a date range
  2. Check the entries you want to modify
  3. Use bulk actions to change topic, add tags, or delete

Edge Cases

Entry already invoiced

Invoiced entries can still be edited, but changes don't affect the closed invoice. If you need to correct invoiced time, create a credit note or new invoice.

Entry from a different device

All entries are available across devices. Edit from anywhere and the changes are saved to your account immediately.

Editing an active timer's start time

You can click the elapsed time on a running timer to adjust when it started. Useful when you forgot to start tracking.

Shrinking an entry past a whole task slot

If a task's time slot falls completely outside the entry's new window, that slot is removed and the task's total drops accordingly — there's no remaining time in the entry for it. Other task slots are unaffected.
