Gamification

Stay motivated with XP, levels, achievements, and streaks.

Overview

TeeckIn uses game-like elements to make time tracking more engaging. Earn experience points (XP) for tracking time, level up as you accumulate XP, unlock achievements for milestones, and maintain streaks for consistent tracking.

These features are entirely optional and off by default. TeeckIn stays clean and distraction-free unless you opt in — turn them on any time from Settings. They never affect your data, billing, or any core functionality; they exist purely to add motivation and make tracking more enjoyable.

Experience Points (XP)

You earn XP for various activities in TeeckIn. XP accumulates over time and determines your level.

ActionXP Earned
Track 1 hour10 XP
Complete a time entry with notes+2 XP bonus
Hit daily time goal25 XP
Maintain a 7-day streak50 XP
Unlock an achievementVaries (25-500 XP)

Tip

Adding notes to your time entries earns bonus XP and helps you remember what you worked on. It is a good habit that pays off in multiple ways.

Levels

As you accumulate XP, you level up. Each level requires more XP than the previous one, following a gradual curve.

LevelXP RequiredApproximate Time
Level 10 XPStart
Level 5500 XP~1 week
Level 102,000 XP~1 month
Level 2515,000 XP~6 months

Your current level and progress to the next level are shown on the Achievements page and on the Dashboard. Level-up notifications appear when you reach a new level.

Streaks

A streak tracks consecutive days where you tracked at least some time. Maintaining streaks encourages consistent tracking habits.

  • Track at least 1 minute of time to count a day toward your streak
  • The streak resets to zero if you miss a day without tracking
  • Your longest streak ever is saved separately from your current streak
  • Weekends count unless you configure them as off days

Note

Weekends (Saturday and Sunday) do not break your streak. Only weekdays (Monday through Friday) count toward the streak requirement.

Tip

If you know you will be away (vacation, holiday), you can pause your streak using Vacation Mode. This prevents the streak from breaking without requiring you to track fake time.

Vacation Mode

Going on vacation? Use Vacation Mode to pause your streak. While paused, your streak won't break even if you don't track time.

  • Open Settings → Productivity → Achievements
  • Find the Vacation Mode section
  • Set a date in the Pause until field

Your streak will automatically resume when the pause date passes. You can also end vacation mode early by clicking "Resume now".

Note

While your streak is paused, you won't earn daily XP bonuses or streak XP. However, you can still earn XP from tracked time if you choose to work.

Turning gamification on or off

Gamification is off by default. Enable it if you'd like XP, levels, achievements, and streaks — or leave it off for a plain, professional interface. You can toggle it any time:

  • Open Settings → Productivity → Achievements
  • Find the Gamification options
  • Toggle Enable gamification on (or off)

When enabled, XP, levels, achievements, and streak displays appear throughout the app. When disabled (the default), they stay hidden. Your data is always preserved, so you can switch either way without losing progress.

Edge Cases

Tracking time on past dates

Manually adding time entries for past dates counts toward your XP but does not retroactively fix broken streaks. Streaks require tracking on the actual day.

Multiple timezones

Streak days are calculated based on your account timezone. If you travel, your streak follows the timezone set in your account, not your current location.

Team billing entities

In team billing entities, each member has their own XP, level, and achievements. There is no team leaderboard by default to avoid unhealthy competition.

Troubleshooting

Problem: XP not updating after tracking time

  • Ensure the time entry is saved (not just a running timer)
  • Stop the timer to finalize the entry and receive XP
  • Refresh the page to sync latest XP totals
  • Check that gamification is enabled in Settings → Productivity → Achievements

Problem: Streak broke unexpectedly

  • Check your timezone setting matches your actual location
  • Verify you tracked time before midnight in your timezone
  • If weekends are excluded, ensure the missed day was not a weekday
  • Review your tracking history in the Calendar view

Problem: Achievement not unlocking

  • Verify you meet all the achievement requirements
  • Some achievements require cumulative totals (check your stats)
  • Refresh the page to sync achievement status
  • Achievements may take a moment to process after meeting criteria
