Setting Rates

Configure hourly rates to calculate earnings and generate invoices.

Rate Strategies

Choose a rate strategy that fits your business:

Per-Topic Rates

Different rates for different work types. Development at $95/hr, consulting at $150/hr, support at $75/hr. Most flexible but requires setting each topic individually.

Per-Client Rates

Same rate for all work with a client. Set the same rate on all topics in that client's category. Simple to manage but less granular.

Blended Rate

One rate for all work. Simple but doesn't reflect different value of different work. Good for retainer arrangements.

When Rates Change

What happens when you update a topic's rate:

  • Future entries — Use the new rate
  • Past entries — Keep the rate that was active when created
  • Running timer — Uses the rate captured at start time

Note

Rate changes never affect historical entries. This ensures your past earnings and invoices remain accurate.

Billable vs Non-Billable

Not all time should be billed:

Billable

  • Client work
  • Project development
  • Consulting calls
  • Deliverable work

Non-Billable

  • Internal meetings
  • Admin tasks
  • Learning/training
  • Sales calls

Tip

Track non-billable time too. It helps you understand your true productivity and identify where time goes that you can't bill.

Currency

Rates are stored as numbers without currency symbols. TeeckIn uses your locale settings to format currency in displays. All calculations use the numeric values.
